Geneva is situated near the best skiing areas of the Alps that are between one and three hours drive from Geneva, and more than 100 skiing resorts scattered in and around Geneva, such as Gstaad, Crans-Montana, Zermatt, Matterhorn.

For a more family oriented trip, Les Gets is an ideal skiing choice, however, for more advanced skiers Chamonix is a very popular destination, you will also get the chance to see professional skiers in action, the reason Geneva attracts many skiing enthusiasts is because it is the gateway to many of the ski resorts in the Alps.


One of the best outdoor leisure activities is snowboarding, Snowboarding is a sport similar to skiing in which a snowboard is attached to a participant's feet using a special boot set in a mounted binding, as for the Snowboarding itself, well there are a few different styles for Snowboarders to enjoy like the FreeCarve and FreeStyle, but the most common and easily accessible style for snowboarders is the freeride style.

There are several canoe clubs in Geneva, the majority of the clubs offer routes for various levels ranging from gentle rides to more adventurous experiences, some clubs offer fast and furious extreme excursions. As the water in Geneva is really cold it is a good idea to take the advice from the clubs to ensure safety, also you should go properly equipped, though some clubs will have equipment like wetsuits etc for hire.


Swimming is one of the famous summer sports in Geneva, Lake Geneva is very popular for swimmers and is open for swimming from May to September, the most popular beach in Lake Geneva is at port-Noir that offers several options for other water sports, and with the stunning natural backdrop of the Jura Mountains makes it quite an impressive place to swim.

There are also facilities such as an Olympic size pool, a waterslide, basketball and volleyball courts as well as a landing stage for water skiing and wind surfing. There are lots of swimming pools around Geneva and the lake that people like to use, some of the lakeside beaches such as Bain de Paquis, Geneve Plage and Baby Plage have special swimming areas, there are also trainers that can offer non swimmers a crash course in swimming as well as for novice swimming enthusiasts.
